Characters I

In the event anyone has trouble making a character, I decided to start throwing a few together for fun. :-)

1. You're living in a thriving, nearly post-capitalist society, but you really just want to be rich.

Your family used to be very wealthy, successful merchants who primarily worshipped Erebos. The pursuit of financial success was deeply engrained within their identity as a family, but then they lost it all in the great war, and by the time they began to recover, the accumulation of vast wealth and an oppulent lifestyle had become taboo. You are not old enough to remember any of this first-hand, but you were mainly raised by your grandmother, who regularly glorified the virtues of wealth. Your ultimate plan is to go to the university, get a position on a ship, see the oceans, and find an island out there, somewhere, where you can make a fortune and buy a private beach.

Species: Satyr

Background: Merchant

Class: Rogue

Supernatural Gift: Thanks to a ritual performed by your grandmother, you're "Inscrutable".

Ideals: Hardwork and/or ingenuity should be rewarded with financial power. And expensive libations.

Bonds: You know your grandmother is nearing her final days, and are upset that you probably won't be there when she passes.

Flaws: You struggle to pass up a bargain or a venture, even when your instincts warn you off. Though not a thief, you aren't above committing a "victimless crime".

_____

2. Your younger sibling had a rare illness noone in Theros was able to treat; now you're determined to perfect the healing arts.

Despite living on an island dripping with divine power, miracles, and magic, some illnesses remain uncured. This is quite frustrating, to say the least, especially when someone close to you is afflicted. You've dedicated your life to perfecting the healing arts of Theros, every remaining malady a hill to conquer.

Species: Yuan-ti

Background: Healer

Class: Druid (Circle of the Moon)

Supernatural Gift: Pious. You have developed a love/hate relationship with Pharika, the goddess of afflictions, and treat her as a silent research partner, whom you praise or profane depending on how things are going. Surprisingly Pharika never seems too offended by your vocal irreverence.

College: Witherbloom

Deity: Pharika

Ideals: Every ailment has a cure waiting to be found.

Bonds: Your greatest bond is to your research. Although your initial goal was to save your sibling, you've driven so deep into your purpose, you've emotionally distanced yourself from other people. You've become more preoccupied with the diseases you're curing than the people who have them, and are especially fixated on a particular form of lycanthropy.

Flaws: You're blunt, sometimes rude, and as a healer, your bedside manner is atrocious. Your obsession with advancinf your work can eclipse your sense of caution and evaluation of risk.

_____

3. You want to create art, not content.

Purphoros toiled for years perfecting the Mechelots that perform most of the manual labor in Theros, but occasionally he would rebel against the tedium by doing something different. You were an experiment in art - living artwork created with the purpose of making art. Unfortunately, Purphoros hadn't the time or patience to persist with you, as an endeavor, and tossed you in with a lot of your kin, to go work in the fields. Unable to adapt to the role your brethren fulfilled, you eventually ended up abandoned by a street in Meletis. Once the philosophers and artists there discovered your purpose, you became both a novelty and a controversy. Accused of being incapable of anything better than plagiarism, you've sought admission to the university and an opportunity to see the world, in the hopes that you'll be inspired to create content that is definitively original.

Species: Gnome

Background: Wayfarer or Charlatan

Class: Sorcerer (Clockwork)

Supernatural Gift: Anvilwrought

College: Prismari (Expression)

Deity: Purphoros

Ideals: You are a thinking, feeling being, that deserves as much respect as anyone else, and you'll prove it through your art!

Bonds: The closest ties you have in the mortal world are the patrons and critics in Meletis, only one of which seemed to regard you as anything more than a curiosity.

Flaws: You have difficulty differentiating useful information from irrelevant information, and sometimes severely misinterpret overly simplistic instructions.
